I find it funny when people think the solution to a game dying is to make a new game. That doesn’t stop the original game from dying. That doesn’t make the old game more popular. All you’re doing is making a new game which will most likely take away a good majority of the players that do play and enjoy classic AOS.
Which is why people trying to make the new game have to make it extremely similar to Classic, so people who played classic can easily migrate to the new game.
First paragraph: Me and a couple of guys are already making a game but I can’t collab with them all that well because my schedule is quite different. I’m currently learning C# and hell I just might build off of OS, make it not only rely on GPU but instead focus it also on CPU to give better framerate for crappy computers like those people running windows XP laptops. “Why would anyone with programming experience invest their time into this game rather than work on something that can benefit themselves?” This is something that bugs me a lot. I ask myself tons of times “What’s in it for me?” Absolutely nothing, except for getting those Brazilians/spanish/portugal hackers to find a way into my game. But the reason why I want to make a game is to make the ace of spades community move on. (This I’m gonna discuss in the next paragraph, responding to Mr. Torch) So, let’s establish a rule right now: Don’t start a topic saying “Why is this game dead?” and expecting coders to be like “Oh sure, I’ll do it for you you pointless piece of ****!” Instead, actually ask this instead: “What can I do to help?”
Mr torches’ response: Yes, I sure as hell know that people will most definitely NOT like a drastic change in a game and being forced to play it. That itself explains a bit of what I’m trying to do. Make an AOS protocol pretty much the same, UI and kv6 modeling like Openspades (Practically unlimited) but ANYONE would be able to run it, no matter what type of computer or how crappy it is. So yeah, Mr. Torch, I sure as hell want to move away from such a pointless game with horrible players, but I really can’t throw $100 to steam and keep my fingers crossed to get a good amount of players!
No one is forced to play any games lols. Also, AOS isn’t any less pointless than a new game you could create and if you think the players are so horrible then leave. No one is forcing you to stay around.
Concerning any new game:
When it comes to making a similar game to AOS the thing to get down is the feel and controls of the game. OS just feels out of my control when I play with all the weird mouse accelerations and it’s harder to quickly aim and shoot with since they have all these “animations” like the zoom-in animation. Anytime I play with OS I feel like I’m giving myself a disadvantage. In a new game however, everyone “should” technically be equal, but if possible make options to turn off silly things like zooming animations easily. If I wanted to play a game with fancy graphics I’d go play the latest mainstream FPS. AOS has always had a really nice skill side to it where even if you’re a terrible player you can still get a few kills with an SMG. However though, when you’re good at the game even the easiest players still can be a challenge at times. Also I find I can always continually practice and get better at things like jump-shooting, crouch-spamming, quick-scoping, etc. Even back when I was younger and had lots of time to play it was like no matter how much I played there was always room for me to get a little better at the game.
So yeah, Mr. Torch, I sure as hell want to move away from such a pointless game with horrible players, but I really can't throw $100 to steam and keep my fingers crossed to get a good amount of players!
Don’t like the animations? You can easily modify that. Go into the scripts (without needing to get to the source code) and get rid of the animations when aiming. The duration of the reloading animations are the same with ace of spades, I’m pretty sure. Hell, I’ll scrounge around in the scripts and see if I can do that for you, if you so desire. Oh yeah did you know that the smg is easier to use in openspades? Yeah, thought that the smg was already too easy to use in ace of spades? Lol. Oddly enough, I’ve gotten more kills and less deaths in openspades than of ace of spades by a landslide. The issue is though that if you have a shitty computer, good luck with openspades. On this computer with OPENGL and every single dang setting turned to an all time low, I get a stable 80fps. Plenty to be able to turn around and no scope when I’m getting hit.
with all the time people spend making these threads someone could’ve made like 5 clones of this game
also someone call 4chan and make this the zeldo thread 2.0
Lel, I’ve already poked around in OS enough to be able to remove it if I want to. I just got tired of OS in general. I’ve also found how incredibly easy it was to give yourself unfair advantages in the script files. I don’t feel like sharing any on the forums to give anyone else ideas, but if you poke around yourself you’ll come up with some very quickly lol. The point was not that I can’t fix OS to how I want it to be, the point was that a new game/client should be set to competitive settings by default or have options so they can be easily changed in menus in game.
