AoS Tournament proposal

As of lately, AOS has of course been fairly empty in most of its Aloha.pk servers. This saddens me, since I have only been in the game’s community since October of 2016 (yes I know that I made this forum account later down the road). With that being said, I understand there have been several attempts to inject new players into this game, which is totally reasonable. Unfortunately, all our ideas have simply failed due to lack of effort, communication, and execution. With that being said, I have one more idea to add to the list, but hopefully it can get enough community support to back it up. As the title states, I propose we host a tournament later this year (we need time to organize, this is barely just a suggestion). I was thinking it be done over a time of break, like Thanksgiving Break (American Bias). We would need to of course agree on how we are to actually host the tournament. I also believe this tournament should simply be for fun, and not be a way to win money. Just bragging rights ;). Now you may be thinking, how can this help grow the community? Well, it can help spread other events within the game. Events are the best way to get players to return after a break, invite new players into the community (it feels more welcoming if you can participate), and also keep players as of now active in the game. So that being said, here are my ideas on how this tournament could go down.

My suggestions

1. Gamemode
Capture the Flag (How generic).

2. Team organization
Teams of at least 5-10 with a possible bench/reserves for emergencies and substitutions, we could work numbers down the road. I also propose we create a bracket. This means we would need 4 or more teams to have some kind of playoff (I suggest we go by 4’s, or it will get confusing). Teams should be organized by players on their own time, and can invite anyone as long as they have an Aloha.pk forum account. Hosts would need to know teams by a certain deadline.

3. Date & Time span
Again, I suggest a time of resting, like Thanksgiving for the Americans. Christmas time could work, yet I can imagine many will be on vacation and such, over Christmas Break. The tournament should be no more than 3 days, since I am assuming the bracket will be fairly small, and games should not last too long.

4. Server
I’m assuming we can do this on an Aloha.pk server, since they do have a few Aloha.pk ctf servers. Classicgen CTF???

5. Hosting
I would be willing to help do this. Yet, I would hate to be in it alone, since I have been so busy lately, and I can imagine the workload I have been given will continue, so I would need some help from others. I have never hosted an event on any game, so I would really like a guide of some sort to help me get through it. We would also need some Aloha.pk official of some sort to help get the server and games set up, but I can imagine we could get it done without one, but it would be hard.

6. Rules
We would need to work on this later.

7. Advertisement
Of course we can advertise on this very forum, but we would need other ways to get to people. Flyers/images could be made as well. I know of the BnS steam group, and some of us have YouTube channels which could help spread the word. I also suggest we stream or record tournament matches as they are being played, so the people at home can watch their favorite players and teams battle it out.

So as of now, here are some of my ideas and proposals, if I missed out on any ideas in which you all think need to be added, point it out (I can imagine I missed key points)! I will update this post as much as we need in order to get this idea on board. I hope this could spark some new ideas and give AoS the boost it needs in publicity.

Hey, I think generally having more events is a wonderful idea! Most people won’t play AoS daily and having occasional events is a great way to stay in touch.

I don’t like arena, since the games will go by too fast. Also CTF is one of the most classic games to have 2 teams battle it out. I would do babel, since that is a AoS tradition, but it would ruin the server for those who are not in the tournament, or have no real interest in viewing the event. Thank you for the suggestion though, we can bring it up again later down the road if this gets up and running.

This might be the most retarded question ever asked on these forums, but bare with me, I was not around on this forum during that time period. What is/was FSOM for AoS? Like, I have seen video clips and heard it be thrown around, but I do not really know what FSOM is.

FSOM = First Saturday of the Month

Pretty sure it’s aloha.pk-specific. Everyone gets together and plays a predetermined game mode on, well, the first Saturday of the month! :slight_smile:

The last one was held back in April and was organized by shywolf91. It was my favourite one I have ever participated in!

I would love to help organize an FSOM. ToW maybe? Haven’t played that game mode in a while.

I would be down to host one of those as well, since they seem like a lot less maintenance compared to a Tournament. I could even do it next weekend if people would be down to do it. It just wouldn’t be considered an FSOM, lol. Thank you for telling me by the way. ;D

thanks to you for your input on this, i do not agree with this that you say because i play on the babel server and not on the arena server and i am not this word that you say, also this is a reminder to be careful of the words you say because the word you use here can be very mean to the lgbtq+ community and i am not one of those people but there are these people on the internet that can read this and it would be very mean to them if they read this, i heard once that 30% of people that live in san franciso are gay, i do not know if this is true but i think it is because san francisco is know for having a lot of gays, my point to say this is that there are a lot of gays maybe not 30% of people are this but there are still a lot of gay people, maybe for the world it is something like 1 in 10 people are gay, keep in mind when you think of this that not all gays admit that they are gay, some of them are “stuck in their closet” liike people say, but anyway there are many gays and it is a good chance that at least one gay will read your message and i hope that he or she or they does not get sad because of reading your message, maybe you can make this better by apologising to the gays that maybe have read this and also apologise to the players of aloha.pk tower of babel because it is not true for your word to apply to all of them or even any of them becausse it is a very rude word and you should take it back, sometimes i see players say things like this in the game and usually they get away with this but then they say it many times and sometimes they get muted, maybe when you keep saying things like this and i see you sometimes say this than maybe you will also get muted like those players, i do not know if you can get muted here however because this is forum and i dont know how the forum work but maybe an admin will one day ban you for saying mean things like this, please be respectful to lgbtq+ people ork mat because maybe one day your boss will be a lgbtq+ people and when he hear you say a word like this he will fire you right away, or maybe wait a couple days to fire you if he decides to give you another chance, or maybe if he isn’t hired you yet he will google you and see that you have written this message on aloha.pk and he will not hire you because of this because he does not want a person like this to work for him because maybe he isn’t comfortable or something like this, now that i think of this maybe it is better if you delete your massage or accoutn on aloha.pk so that your boss does not see this if you have a boss, some people do no have bosses because they are unemployed or they are their own boss in a way, but most people have bosses so i assume you are one of these people, this decision is to you, hopefully next time you feel that you want to type a message like this you will think of the gays and that they might get sad if they read and and then maybe you will not post it or you will change the words you use because in the long run of life it is not good to make enemies, some people say to make friends and not enemies, this is a true advice because friends will help you and enemies will not so it is better for people to be your friends and not your enemies,

I always love a good tourney! As earlier mentioned, FSOM would be cool too. And as for bringing new players into the community, that’s always going to be hit and miss with BaS. There’s a lot of vets still dedicated to the game but we do receive new players too all the time, though I’d argue that there isn’t ever an influx. That being said, a tourney is still entirely possible! Doesn’t have to be an attraction to try to reel in new people but rather something for everyone who still loves to play to do.

Arena mode

I don’t think arena is a good idea. We should pick something that is not commonly played. If I want to play some arena I can just hop on any time. I think going with arena would be a great way to waste an event.

Babel is better since it’s more fun with a team that is actually competent, but i’d still prefer if we could play something more esoteric.

I’d recommend considering other modes like classigen CTF, infiltration or any of the various great gamemodes we have in this game.
