Sniper vs Counter-Sniper (New game mode idea)

Players spawn, but the teams are uneven, but this does not matter as there is a difference with the way the game is played.
5 Players armed with shotgun vs 1 with rifle, the map is designed to support camping.
The 5 with shotgun have 25 lives among them, if they all lose more than 25, the counter sniper team loses.
They cannot build, but can destroy.

The sniper has a limited supply of ammunition, a total of 50 rounds meaning that cannot have a bad aim.
The buildings provide an advantage and they can build, meaning they can quickly reach areas and hide well.

The game depends a lot on the counter-sniper team…

Should they stay in a group and work together to find the sniper and being in a group able to direct a high amount of firepower to any location? Or should they split up and have a chance of taking the sniper by surprise?

Seems cool! Would like to check it out in action.

Right now we don’t need more game modes, just improvements to the current ones we have…
But, if ace of spades was popular enough I think it’d be a cool game mode.
Maybe 10 snipers and 22 counter-snipers for a full server? Not an exactly even ratio but can’t get one with 1-5 out of 32

Improvements can always be made to existing game modes, the only thing is making the improvements without changing the overall game mode itself.
An idea can be changed and doesn’t require changes which require effort.
The more thoughts and feedback can help improve an idea before or if it even gets implemented, so it comes out pretty well.

The 5-11 ratio might work pretty well, but it alters the original idea by a good amount.

My experience is that current game modes are not improved on Aloha.
There was a time when constant changes (including new client releases) meant that players would experiment with tactics and structures.
These days are gone. The pretty much optimal babel tower remains the pretty much optimal babel tower, and it is only adjusted for map and to opposite team strength.

To those who disagree: Please show me the babel server where I can lay down landmines on order to discourage the continuous use of the same sniper hole.

We’d need some vegetated maps for this. If it’s forest maps we’d both need green colored teams.

So the counter-sniper team could simply crouchspam all day long…

The map would probably be made to make it easy for the sniper, but provides a way for the counter-sniper team to take them on.
Crouchspam is something which can’t really be fixed in any game mode. :stuck_out_tongue:
Maybe 1 shot instant kill from rifle could fix the part of crouchspam?

1 shot kill, less ammo, and slower fire rate if possible
maybe make ammo 5-20

-Sniper gets regeneration power from blockpower and has poison bullets.
-Counter-Sniper team gets Griefshot to destroy cover from sniper.
-Ammunition from sniper is at 40 rounds.
-Counter-Sniper team has camo to match with streets.
-Sniper has camo to match with buildings.

Counter snipers get landmines, so that they can boobytrap too much reused sniper positions.
Maybe limit number of mines per refill in tent to one.
Snipers can only get mines by defusing (digging from a safe distance) mines already in game.

You’re getting into minecraft mods here lol, not sure that would be viable with aos.

I like the idea of mines, but maybe limit each player to 3 mines or so?
So maybe there isn’t too many mines.

All are perfectly viable if done correctly.

-Sniper has camo to match with buildings.(The color from the sniper will match the shading of the buildings.)

So it isn’t impossible and can be done. :slight_smile:
