Infinite blocks and ammo feedback/discussion topic!

Hello,

2 weeks ago we added infinite blocks and ammo to our babel server. We are already discussing the feedback we have gotten through Discord or ingame, but we want to give everyone an equal platform to share their thoughts and ideas. Please answer these questions for us:

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?

Does something else need change or do the exsisting addons need to be tweaked?

Give us your feedback and help change the gamemode for the better!

My personal thoughts:

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?
I quite like it, so many big structures are being build.

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?
This was added to not make towers indestructible. It makes the smg really strong though.

Does something else need change or do the exsisting addons need to be tweaked?
I think I would only change the infinite ammo to not be infinite, just buffed or changed into another system. I dont have any ideas about what kind of system though. Thats for you guys to come up with!

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?
While it is a fun feature and sometimes it is nice not having to go to tent to refill or /killing myself I feel it makes Babel less challenging. IMHO it makes it easier to get towers up fast which makes Babel less challenging even with infinite ammo.

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?

Same as blocks. Except some maps this makes smg way too op. For example on trade off if you can get yourself to a spot where the enemy is unlikely to be easily able to get you you can rest their tower

Does something else need change or do the exsisting addons need to be tweaked?

I would make it so by killing people who can get some more blocks and ammo instead of just having infinite stuff.

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?
Definitely enjoying it so far! Towers are much bigger and intricate than before.

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?
I definitely hear everyone when they say it’s become so easy to camp with that. On tradeoff, there is practically no cooldown to rain down hellfire on an otherwise robust tower. Same for any map that basically has tons of hiding points.

Does something else need change or do the exsisting addons need to be tweaked?

I still believe blocks should be infinite. However, shy has the right idea imo. Every 5 kills, it could reward you with full ammo (maybe minus grenades, though). It lets people who get creative enough to juggle between kills and tower breaking have more ammo, while people who can’t get kills from their vantage point (under the tower in a rabbithole or in a mountain) need to painstakingly rack up 5 kills or go back to tent.

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?
I’ve noticed that towers are getting sturdier, and you don’t have to slowly go down the tower to refill and slowly go up again, speeds up the process. But then again, there’s always gonna be a team that doesn’t do their job.

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?
For the average joe it doesn’t really make a big difference, but for better players, this can make spawntrapping easier as you won’t have to cover a guy who’s going back to refill and vice versa (this is from my experience).

Does something else need change or do the exsisting addons need to be tweaked?
I’d suggest making the ammo refill limited to about 2-3 times though I’m not sure if that would make that big of a difference. I have no issues with the infinite blocks atm.

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?
It the most useful feature ever added on babel.

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?
It is a nice idea but i don’t think both Inf Blocks and Inf Ammo should be on babel.

Does something else need change or do the existing addons need to be tweaked?
I would prefer to keep infinite blocks instead of infinite ammo since infinite ammo makes SMG overpowered for destroying blocks, but infinite blocks gives for more building larger stairs/toers, which is the main objective to achieve on babel.

What do you think about infinite blocks being added?

Well it’s certainly interesting.
I’d prefer if people had 100 or 150 blocks instead of infinite. I fear it makes the strategic part of building a bit weak.

What do you think about infinite ammo being added?

I’d prefer if people had 2x the ammo instead of infinite.

Does something else need change or do the exsisting addons need to be tweaked?

I once implemented grenade => teleport instead of exploding on a babel server and found it was fun^^.

that does sound fun

The infinite ammo feature has now been replaced with increased ammo capacity (set to 50% more ammo) on babel. Please reply below if you think the change is good or bad!

If we combine Izzys idea and this… Refilling grenades? Use a command to set your grenades to explode or refill. Refill your own and teammates(that are in range of your exploding grenade) blocks and ammo by throwing your grenades. Balancing this will need some time. I would reduce ammo to either the normal amount or less and blocks to the normal amount. Grenades would have the 3 times normal use and then turn into dummy grenades.

Would it even be possible to script this?

The change is very good not bad. ty ferrari, very cool

(of course some way to choose between teleport and regular would be in order)

It also break the gameplay since you don’t need a complete tower anymore to get to the cloud. :frowning:

This defunct “laby” mode also had life regen at +3 HP/sec, so when injured you can hide and regain health.

Technically you can make grenades do a lot of things in pysnip (anyone remember the “powers” mode?), the things that work well are things that take advantage of the delay before exploding.

 • For a teleport grenade, it works because you can launch it, attack your enemies in 3 seconds and then teleport somewhere safely. Perfect for an ambush.
 • For refilling, waiting 3 seconds before refilling is not really enhancing gameplay

Regarding refilling, perhaps a way to give other players blocks / ammo would lead to new tactics.

So… Having played with the new rules for a while, I feel it is time for some more feedback.
Personally, I find that the combination of unlimited blocks and builders apocalypse has severely degraded the game.

Builders apocalypse is based on number of blocks put down an nothing else.
The person that drives the tower up will always be much more exposed and thus build slower than someone just laying down random blocks.
Therefore, there is now a big award for random block spamming, leading to … random block spamming.

Players with no knowledge of tactical building will start dumping endless amounts of blocks, often destroying carefully designed towers in the process.
They block shielded pathways, and create huge massive lumps that the opposition can easily tunnel into and use to take down the tower.

If the actual builders then succeed in spite of this, and start bringing intel down, then there will even be a big reward for this behavior.
And just to add insult to injury, builders are now much less protected. Apoc.chasers take slots from players that would normally push forward and around the tower, resulting in many more cases of builders being shot or towers taken down.

It is great fun to achieve a builders apoc, and it can be used to great tactical effect. However, as things are now, the playability of the game has been greatly reduced if you are a builder.

I suggest that at least one of these elements must be changed.
Maybe apoc points could be counted by (block / Z_distance_from_platform / X_distance_from_platform_edge ) this would mean that blocks further forward and higher up are more valuable than the blocks that are laid down in relative safety far back and low.

Just my two frustrated cents…

Haven’t played a lot, but as a builder I don’t really like infinite blocks that much. I’d rather have 100 to 200 blocks on me, I like that you had to get back to tent, or go attacking. I also feel like opponent tower harassment works a lot less than before.
