April Map Stats for the Babel Server

There’s been a script running on babel gathering some stats on how long maps are taking and how each team does.
So far we have 34 days of stats. That’s 987 map-rounds, 11137 points scored, and 49 unique maps.
All that said, Congrats Red team! You won 113 more games than Blue team! Maybe next time try joining the losing team?

Here’s a chart + table of each map’s time and the average time each map took. The average of ALL the maps is 50 minutes and 29 seconds.

Of the maps that have been played more than 10 times, TowerDive, crossfire3, remus, and spitfire seem to be the most ‘fair’ (blue and red teams have won the map nearly equally), although it’ll take a lot more rounds to make any accurate judgement on whether they actually are ‘fair.’

On this page you can find the stats for the individual rounds:

Most notably, a game of tortuga took nearly 7 hours to complete with a final score of 10-1! Also the map ‘nine_eye_babel’ won shortest-map with 6 minutes and 26 seconds! That’s roughly 38 seconds per cap!

But hopefully we can use these stats to make educated decisions about the map rotation on babel.
To start off, the top 5 (average) longest maps are:
tortuga
alexandria
mazehills
binladencompoundv7
icecraft

All last at least 1 hour and 10 minutes.

Discuss!

What are zombies stats?

The script is only running on babel. Frankly, most of the other servers do not have a stable enough playercount to get meaningful stats

My top maps:

  1. Pinpoint2
  2. Trenches
  3. Newfort

Haven’t gotten a chance to try out ufo but from what I’ve heard it’s pretty fun.

The good maps end the quickest. ):

I recommend maybe making a large elevated base for people to tower up from on the longer maps, so they balance out and don’t take as long or just making a mini-babel server with faster paced maps.

imo map stats would be good on arena (at least on arenacs)

babel top ten

It would be nice to see, but there’s not a whole lot of variety in what maps we can run anyway.

babel top ten
I think arena top 10 might've been the worst idea we've had. I think it pretty much killed any motivation for people to make new arena maps.

Another idea might be a ‘weighted’ rotation, where shorter maps are played more often than longer maps.

Sounds like a good idea. We should also look into letting players vote for a map (start a vote when one team hits 9 caps and run it for 1 min)

Arenacs killed all other arena maps :(. CS_Office, the best one, goes by too quick and its the same damn maps over and over.

We could just make one arena server that has everymap but that might kill off some players who only like cs maps

I think the arena situation is beyond repair. The days of TSB are over and so is all maps and top 10 lol.

2 arena servers that split the maps and then rotate might help

On topic: to me the shorter the game goes, the better. I would definitely play a “mini-babel” server

Favourite maps:

  • mini-hills (love it)
  • bridgeitis! (love it)
  • the experimental map with only one line of blocks
  • in general I like the strange abstract maps better than realistic ones

We live in the 21st century. No one has time for 8 hour maps.

Drop all those 1:10hr+ maps except maybe binladencompoundv7 (I’m indifferent). Definitely drop Tortuga.

I don’t have all the maps memorized because I don’t care for babel that much since the maps are so long, so I definitely think the rating system would be a great idea. It would allow even the newbies to vote on the maps they like and don’t like.
