The best anti-cheat system would be having a way to patch exploits used to make hacks if possible and having a platform we can continuously release updates to.
The reason we don’t use the auto kick/ban part of the script is because we feel it is not accurate enough. I mean I can set off no recoil detection without hacking because of lag.
Way back before AoS 1.0, I joined a competition set up in the forums. I think Aloha was hosting the server. When my ping suddenly spiked up to 20000+(?), I was banned. I had to contact the izzy on the IRC for an appeal. Had I not know how to appeal, I would have stayed banned on that server.
I think a false positive (banning someone innocent) is /waaaay/ worse than a false negative (letting a hacker get away). People from all around the world play on Aloha, and we don’t want to alienate them from our servers by banning them accidentally (and it’s very likely that they don’t know how to appeal). Because of this, I believe it’s reasonable that we only use the anti-hack script not as evidence, but as an alert system.
So for an average non hacker to enjoy a good game of ace of spades, how does he detect if a person is hacking or not? Ping and accuracy aren’t all too reliable.
The only way is to use pubovl and spectate that player and record evidence for the abuse thread. Additionally you can report in game by using /admin or in irc #aloha prove as much details required for the admin
My ficklest of friends - the solution to your silly problem is undividedly trivial.
I propose that Lincent is given administrator privileges, such that he can ban hackers on his own discretion. Not only would he serve as an excellent addition to our talented company of administrators on aloha.pk, but I expect he would evolve to become an influential community leader and role model, similar to myself.
Doctor Dank, I must arduously agree with you for once. You are indeed as influential as a rain drop in the atlantic and a role model to the dung beetles around the globe.
