I actually liked the time, that was the first time that an event was held at a time where us Australians can feasibly attend. Good game overall

This event turned out to be an interesting experiment.
When told to build something useful for your team, you dug out whole chunks. The intels were left completelly unprotected and people still had trouble getting it because instead of using stealth, they walked on the surface in the warzone hoping that nobody would see them. Also no one used the fact that the map was all messed up to build a subtle bunker, or even a foxhole.
I expected players to at least re-adapt to this new environment, but I guess the veteran playstyle is no longer achievable by the current comunity, even if for a little while. And as consequence, the golden days are impossible to be recreated.
That sounds a little pretentious man…
There was no point in pre-building towers or pre-building bunkers, because they were just destroyed and the intel and tent were moved constantly. If they would’ve actually turned off the ability for people to destroy blocks… you would’ve seen people actually build useful stuff. And did you actually go and build intel towers and not walk in the open or are you just saying this to say it?
Also, the destroying of a whole chunk was just a joke to make fun of the fact that there was no point in building when it would just be destroyed anyways. Destroying a chunk was the only change that would actually stay till the match.

Well I think I saw SnIpEr using the already made highway tunnel to get behind their borders. I agree on the towers part; once both of blue’s towers and green’s super bridge were griefed it wasn’t really worth it to try again, but I really had fun trying to protect mine and Ferrari’s wall on that Thursday (it was like an event by itself)
Also I saw green had a ground bunker near our spawn (which I destroyed on Friday morning), and I had built a bunker in the big hole in the mountain area. The problem for me was that I wanted to either protect the intel or travel along the sides to capture the intel, and the bunkers were all in the middle.
I was mostly disappointed by the fact that people were able to kill during the so called “building” phase before the actual event took place on Saturday. This just makes the whole building phase pointless as so called “building” phase isn’t really a building phase different from the standard game that can be played any day of the year.
I also agree with Torch about whole “structure not staying up for long” because most people aren’t going to stay on the server for too long. They are mostly all busy people. This means that people will not take time to build if they have to go in about 30 minutes~1 hour and just go straight into sniping, spawnkilling, SMG-spraying, nade-chucking, griefing, having an intimate time in an isolated bunker, etc. Why? Because whatever time they spend building, it’s going to get destroyed by a troll on their own team or an enemy that wants that structure gone.
Maybe if lots of people stayed on that server constantly, some structures will remain safe as people are constantly repairing and guarding it. However, we are talking about classic gen here. Not cs maps, not babel, a god forsaken classic gen amidst the more popular servers that feature pretty much nothing but vanilla (which most of the people moved away at this point, apparent by the more “interesting” game mode of servers being populated). People aren’t going to be in the server. The server’s population is going to peak at the event time and event time only. I personally joined about 30 minutes after the event started, expecting a close to a full server. Not even half the server was full. Naturally, seeing this, I instantly lose all motivation to actively seek out and go for the objectives, but draw a pixel art in some isolated corner of the map somewhere or destroy a large section of the map (as some people did by destroying that large chunk of land).
The fact that you are trying to compare the current audience, who are more used to later stages of AoS where people start featuring new modes, to the veterans, who played this game since it came out and are more used to older versions of the game, is just not fair. It’s basically trying to compare a Model-T to an F-22 Raptor. Also, don’t think that I’m just saying this because I’m one of the newer players. I’ve played this game since back in the days of Goon Haven.
sniff sniff :’(
Yeah, like Ferrari told that there will not be any damage.
But then, the damage got enabled, and things started to go bananas.
