I might have misunderstood your explination but I dont think you can hit anything beyong 128 blocks horizontally.

On flat ground, fog of war kicks in at about 128 blocks. You cannot see beyond that. However, your bullet can travel farther than that as demonstrated in my compilation of long distance shots.
