Ace of Spades Classic / Not enough players? ShamWOW!
« on: September 14, 2014, 05:05:37 PM HST »
*Brings out Shamwow guy*
How many times has this happened. You're enjoying a nice round on your favorite arena server on a small map with a few close friends and some randoms then BAM! The map changes. What's the next map going be? Is it going to be too big? too small? I don't know, and then it hits you like a slap chop (or like when I beat the shit out of that prostitute here.) The map is gigantic, way to big for you and your few friends to play on. Rounds drag on, and ultimately the server dies like I would if I talked any faster. Well not any more, clean up that mess, like you would with a Shamwow, in one clean sweep.

So here's what you'll need to do. Have the arena script check for a new variable in the map.txt file. This variable will have the recommended number of players for that map.
So...
if 'numberOfPlayersOnServer' < 'recommendedPlayersForMap'
     Do not play map.
else
     Play map.

But wait there's more!

You can add a reverse of the '<' sign and cause a grouping effect (ie. recommended player count = 10-20, thus allowing for further map selection compared to the amount of players currently on the server.)

But wait there's more!

You could also implement this with babel if a map is to large/bumpy/complex for a small group of players.

But wait if you call in right now, I'll throw in a free family sized tea maker, so you can tea-bag with all your friends.
*Shamwow guy jumps out the window because he's clearly on crack."

Thank you Vince you've been a great help.
Obviously I don't think this idea is going to appeal to everyone, but thought I'd throw it out there.

ban appeals / Sticky Votekick Tyler
« on: September 03, 2014, 05:11:29 AM HST »
1) Votekicks last only 30 minutes. Did you wait at least 30 minutes to make sure your "ban" is not just a votekick?
Sure did, however it was a votekick as far as I know.

2) What is your in-game player name? Please include it in the subject of this topic as well.
My name twas DOMO at the time.

3) What server were you playing on when you got banned? Reminder: We can only help you with bans that took place on aloha.pk servers.
Arena Top 10

4) Why were you banned? Lying severely decreases your chances of getting unbanned. If your "little brother" got you banned, tell him to make an appeal, or accept responsibility on his behalf.
I was banned because I didn't log in fast enough. I ended up in a match with fewer than 10 people, and thus got swiftly votekicked. I believe, like many of my votekicks that succeed it is another never ending votekick.

6) When were you banned? Best approximate date and time, please.
I'm going to guess about 9:00 pm PST on the 2nd of September 2014.

Figured this would be a good a place I'm going find to post this "ban-appeal." I would normally just contact an admin via IRC, however my IRC client has been acting up along with I will not have the time to visit the IRC this morning. If there is a more preferred method you would have me contact you please let me know.

Thank you for your time and dedication as always.

the little big list / Hey look! another voxel type FPS: "Due Process"
« on: June 30, 2014, 04:57:39 PM HST »
Pretty interesting looking voxel game in its alpha state.
So far it looks like an Attack&Defend based game with some potential.

I personally thought the concept of having this blank building (red's building) surrounded by an empty open world, along with the paint effects on the white surroundings was pretty intuitive.
I'm unsure if it is open  to play but  here is the home page. and here is some more information.

abuse reports / [o] Ban Evading and Hacking
« on: May 10, 2014, 09:28:04 PM HST »
Player names:
|OG|-BonesaW
|OG|-CarlGrimeS

Server:
Arena Top 10

(I've checked his last Ban Appeal and i'm assuming Bonesaw has not been unbanned since.)
For |OG|-BonesaW,
No evidence on the Hacking (so can't do anything about that currently), but will list it anyway snapping aimbot with 200 ping, and Ban Evading.

For |OG|-CarlGrimeS, (claimed as the brother of Bonesaw)
Again no evidence on the Hacking, but blatant esp and snapping with 200 ping, and if these brothers are in the same house Ban Evading as well.

Figured the Ban Evasion would be enough to at least put them on the notice list.
and as a character reference, he seems to show no remorse as his action of re-entering the servers and his (not proven) hacking has not changed.

Time of activity: around PST 11:00 pm (5/10/14)

abuse reports / [X] poke(youtube), aimbot, esp, no-recoil
« on: July 25, 2013, 12:32:50 PM HST »

Earlier before the video was taken this player had 1400% smg accuracy, and obvious no-recoil.

The video ended as the player dies, afterwards at the start of the next round he commented "I have aimbot kick me kick me." and d/ced.
As your logs should show.

Unfortunately I didn't have ovl going at the time so not sure if the video is worth anything to you guys.

Anyways, best of luck catching these different time zone hackers.

Edit: Oh I did miss this little tid bit, his name is "poke(youtube)" I didn't add the youtube.

Ace of Spades Classic / The Possible Future of Arena
« on: April 09, 2013, 09:01:23 PM HST »
Ok so it's no doubt that arena is one of the most popular gamemodes, along with 1ctf, babel, infiltration, and a few others.
In an attempt to keep the gamemode fresh and lively I thought I might bring up a few ideas and points.

1. Top 10 has been a very successful server, but as it seems it pretty much killed off Arena All Maps. (Contributing to this was also the decrease in players after jagex's release.) As much as it's amazing to see everyone's creations and the variety of map layouts, it seems to have an overbearing effect on the players as they may want to stay with a select few, thus Top 10 was created. As many players enjoy familiar landscapes, they also enjoy a little change. So to spell it out more bluntly, I would like to propose the idea of an additional map to Top 10, suppose a map that has a high chance of being enjoyed by the players, it may be to remove a lesser favorite, or even Top 10+1. As of course to keep this from being too much, you may wish to only switch this map out every 2 weeks or once a month.

2. One of the more obnoxious events to happen upon a round win event is the additional 10 points the killer gets. (killer is scripted as the player to get the final kill). I've gotten the last kill plenty of times to know it can throw you through a loop trying to figure out how many points you really have earned.

3. Along the lines of points this next idea maybe able to apply to further gamemodes, the idea of an assist point, being as 1/2 (0.5) of a point for causing 50hp damage. I know as of any game it has it's limitations, I've been programming for a few years to know this, only reason I see this may not work is that the damage is not registered in relation of the giver and the receiver.

4. Getting back to arena, an interesting idea that popped up awhile back, evolving arena maps. It works like so...
Going further then starting gates, you can set time intervals and the RGB to match parts of your map.
Example:
gamemode arena;
evolvement1: time_interval, RGB;
evolvement1: 1:30 (or 90 secs), 255,255,255; <-This starts the event half way through the match (match = 3 mins), and breaks the blocks with this color (white). You may also try multiple evolvements as to change the map at say minute 2 and the last 1. (Would be a great way to speed a match up at the near end, and keep people from remaining in one position too long.)
With such a tool you can create maps the change before the players eyes examples are things such as, new rooms being unlocked, floors caving in, entire buildings being removed. The changes can be grand or minimal. You could even have a map tell a story a story! Example: You could have a map follow the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Her trip to grandma's house through the woods, until the Big Bad Wolf blocks your path! You need to wait half way through the match, when he breaks so you can continue to grandma's house.
Only con I can see is lag if you remove parts of too large a size.

I'd love to hear anyone's ideas! ^_^
I'd also love to try making such scripts but I have little knowledge of Python.
Number 3 and 4 are more for the programmers of the group, but if you like and want either of the ideas express your desire below. : D

ban appeals / Babelon's Ban Appeal
« on: March 20, 2013, 01:19:22 PM HST »
1) Votekicks last only 30 minutes. Did you wait at least 30 minutes to make sure your "ban" is not just a votekick?

Indeed. I had spoke with the admins over the IRC, who had confirmed my ban.

2) What is your in-game player name? Please include it in the subject of this topic as well.

In-game name at the time was Babelon, being as my second in-game name, under [TSB]Tyler~SAW.

3) What server were you playing on when you got banned? Reminder: We can only help you with bans that took place on aloha.pk servers.

Aloha. pk's Babel server, hence the name Babelon.

4) Why were you banned? Lying severely decreases your chances of getting unbanned. If your "little brother" got you banned, tell him to make an appeal, or accept responsibility on his behalf.

From talking with the admins they had told me it was for esp.

5) Why should you be unbanned?

My AoS folder had not been injected with any hacking software, I had no external hacking software, thus I could not and was not hacking, I look down upon hacking. I believe in a fair game where one may use ones skills, wits, and ability to overcome ones opponents, in a sportsman like fashion.

6) When were you banned? Best approximate date and time, please.

Ace of Spades Classic / Submitting Map
« on: December 25, 2012, 05:56:02 PM HST »
Here's a fun little map for arena. It's a 2 story map takes up about 2 grid blocks, real strait forward. 3 rooms and side runners for the bottom floor, up top you got a center room with a few staircases. Makes for quite the interesting map.

Name: Phases
Authers: MoonGirl, Raglee, Gracidea, Draco, Pokey, Snip

ban appeals / Ban Appeal: Tyler
« on: October 03, 2012, 04:37:47 PM HST »
#1: Waited, to no avail.
#2: My IGN is normally Tyler~SAW. IGN when the ban happened, Pedophile:3 (yes I know the name is pretty bad, it was for laughs more then anything.)
#3: Took place on your "arena all maps" server.
#4: Reason "Hacking/Aimbot".
#5: I've never hacked your servers, nor have I hacked on any AoS servers. I have always respected the rules of your servers, other players, and your admins. I have no intention to harm your server, if anything I've helped more than not by reporting hackers and glitchers, and even submitting a map. I've played first person shooters for more than 10 years so my skill may be higher then most players on your servers.
#6: Time of ban was about 7:00 AM PST.

Hope I can get appealed, I enjoy the servers very much and would like to continue playing them.
~Tyler
