« on: May 15, 2019, 04:12:26 AM HST »

I am having trouble installing Build and Shoot. When  I installed the launcher, 0.75, i click on any server, it says joining server and ''indirect draw failed''.
I am playing this game after almost 1 year, please help me out.

Yours truely

Do you get a number after? Also check your config file. Could be something wrong with the resolution values

Ace of Spades Classic / Re: Votekick threshold.
« on: May 07, 2019, 04:36:06 AM HST »
Hey everyone,

I think this is a sentiment everyone felt at some point, but the votekick threshold is much too high on babel. On a full server, not enough people give a shit about votekicks to vote at all (not even considering the much plausible language barrier too).

Admins aren't really on all the time, so it's kind of frustrating when players can't really do anything about it.

Could there be any way to lower it at all?

iirc I don’t think the threshold has been changed before and is currently at the level it is for protection against abuse. If it was lowered imo then many “false-positive” vote kicks or spammy vote kicks have a higher chance of going through.

When a vote kick is started I usually switch to the spectator team and spectate the accused hacker for about a minute or two and if I don’t see any oblivious hacking going on I usually don’t /y and I usually don’t /y if the vote kick has some stupid reason, such as “traps are gay” unless I know for certain it’s against a player that I know is personally breaking the rules.

but maybe the current player base requires a lower limit? In the past we had hundreds of players and lately I don’t think we have that many currently playing (need to get people interested), but I also feel the system needs a update.

For example, IMO vote kick should have reasons prewritten in the script (/votekick # player, 0= hacking, 1=grief/tower block, etc) and more can be added when needed. While this takes away some freedom of the players it prevents some abuse (I.e. player x is a bitch, traps are gay, etc). Lately I’ve seen more people tie up votekicks with these ridiculous reasons and if for some reason they are for a legitimate votekick I wouldn’t know because traps are gay != hacking.

Another reason people don’t vote imo is that they don’t understand English. I’ve said before having system commands translated to a language would be a good idea but unsure if possible or already integrated.

Spoiler for unknown:

BIG changes are now active on the aloha.pk hallway server.

- Seven maps have been added to the rotation!
Spoiler for New Maps:

- Players now have an infinite number of blocks!

- Airstrikes are enabled!  Get a 10 kill scorestreak to activate the airstrike.

- The gamemode has been switched from r1ctf to normal ctf.

- Time limit has been set to 3 hours.

JOIN NOW and have fun!

About time. I used to love hallway but tbh it got pretty boring after a while. Although I will miss r1ctf. The best change imo is the time limit.

Well, I know it’s a long shot, but I sent an email to the CEO/COO of Jagex about this dilemma. But, what do you think would happen if the source code were released? Do you think it would be a good thing?

IMO I think it would be nice to have the original source code

What is your reasoning for ditching 0.75? Because, I’ve played both 0.75 and 0.76 and they seem like the same thing at first glance. But, I get that we do need improvement, and that’s why I feel the source code should be released, so the people can shape it the way they want. I think Jagex would have the original source code, and if they don’t, giving away the rights would still allow a bigger freedom for innovations. Maybe we could get Ben to give the source code back if the rights were given away. I know this is a long shot, but imo this is one of the only ways to keep this game going.

I wasn't saying ditching 0.75 for 0.76. IMO openspades and betterspades while compatible with AOS classic 0.75 are different and if the original 0.75 client went away could be made into an entirely new game. IMO those two clients have a better chance of becoming a new game then the original source code being released.

Ben, if you know how to contact him, couldn't give you the souce code without, AFAIK, breaking the law since the source code and game belongs to jagex. Only jagex can release the code legally. I only mentioned that they might not have the original 0.75 source code because how different their version is compared to what 0.75, from what I remember. They could have ditched the original code as soon as they had their version up and running.

From my understanding of the latest post from jagex developers is that they thought about making it opensource but decided against that. I doubt they will release the rights if they decided against making it open source (unless they plan to make a new game or sell the rights)

Eventhough the shutdown the game jagex still owns it. They thought about making their version opensource but decided against it "due to potential technical, legal and licensing implications".

I'm not even sure they still have the original source code anymore. There are clients in development such as openspades and betterspades but imo they won't really take off unless we ditch 0.75 classic.

IMO we need to dtich classic and focus on one of them and make a entirely new game.
