Alright, lets put debating whether this game is dead aside, I am sure all of you can admit that we, the BuildandShoot community, are doing something wrong.
So whats going wrong?

I don't think we're the problem, Lincent. It's the fact that we are trying to keep a game that hasn't been updated for 4 years alive. There's virtually nothing we can do except:

1. Try to develop a successor to the game

Sure, it's possible. But there would be a lot of complications of how close it is to AoS, which Jagex could sue us by having similarities if they're feeling dickish enough. Also, being community-developed, we would have to heavily rely on one another which is tough to do, especially since the community is so little and is dying.

2. Harass Try to convince Jagex to update the game vastly / Make them give the rights back to Ben

The Ace of Spades Steam forums have already tried as hard as they could to get Jagex to update the game on Steam and failed miserably, since there's only about 5 active members of the community there. Trying to get them to give the rights back to Ben is almost impossible, as he signed a contract with them and chances are they haven't even contacted him since mid-2013, when he left.

3. Advertise the game a lot and try to get big YouTuber influence

Although this may seem really hard to do, it is still possible. Suggesting this game (OpenSpades, of course) to big YouTubers could have a positive effect, especially if we try get rid of a lot of in-game trolls, griefers, and hackers. Also, like I am doing, making a YouTube account and uploading decent-quality gameplay could help advertise the game, since you're getting the game out there more.

4. Become a confident community again

I have noticed surprisingly that the Ace of Spades Classic/Build and Shoot community is awfully hard on themselves, just because the game is dying. It's inevitable that the game was going to die off, but the community is acting like it's their own fault by saying it's a garbage community, etc... But look around! OpenSpades was a community-made project which rejuvenated Ace of Spades Classic! That shows that the community truly cares about the game! No community is quite like the BnS community; no other community I have ever heard of has been able to make an entire clone of a game, only better, all by themselves. We really have to stop acting so glum, especially on the BnS forums. Although the game may be dying ever so slowly, the community should still stand up straight and be extremely proud of themselves.

Concerning any new game:
When it comes to making a similar game to AOS the thing to get down is the feel and controls of the game. OS just feels out of my control when I play with all the weird mouse accelerations and it's harder to quickly aim and shoot...


Amen; I hate playing OS because of it's controls, and if there's a new game with controls people don't like, that will be very controversial.

Oh don't you worry about that dankeypoo. We've got that covered. ^_^ Just hand over the admin rights to me and Kuuni for a few and we'll do all that tedious, time wasting work for you. We'll think of every possible subforum that would ever be necessary and you can just sit back and sip your pina colada while we do all this troublesome riff-raff.

New Babel Map Structure Idea Hello everyone! I have an idea for a new kind of Babel map structure, which would expand gameplay and make it more interesting. Tell me what you think!

I first had the idea last night while thinking about farmladencompound. Although it's a joke map, it still has a very interesting idea: a top surface, but under it is another huge map which people can use to sneak close to the enemies!

My idea is - what if new Babel maps had 2 'areas' - a top area of the map, but then a bottom area of the map? For example, he top could be a city, and if you dig about 6 blocks down it will lead to a pipe system. This makes gameplay even more dynamic and fun. Some maps already have this in Babel with exposed tunnel systems, but it would be nice to see more maps with them. Trying to just flank or dig one long hole through the middle of the map bores me and usually makes me want to stop playing. With a whole other map basically underneath the existing top map, it will make gameplay much more intense (the underground parts could be mazes or huge caverns). It would cause the team to defend different areas, and would really stress the building part of the game (for the caverns example, players would have to build a bridge to get across and surprise the enemy from below).

The only problem I see with this is that it would distract from the actual game mode, almost completely oppositely, because people will try to go to the bottom rather than the top. I still think it's an interesting idea, and if I have time, I will try to make a map demonstrating it.

It will be taking place on July 26th (next Tuesday) at 5PM GMT. The map will be ONLY Assault by Chrispin, a true classic map which is sure to bring back many memories for the AoS playerbase. It will be CTF up to 25 captures.

For those of you who don't know what Assault is...



Assault is a map by Chrispin which has a very unique feel to it. Green team can attack and flank the platform blue is on, and blue can fire down at the greens to defend their intel. Green beware, because blue can easily flank green and destroy their walls at their spawn and sneak away with the intel! The map also has no added water damage or any extra things.

There will be 32 slots available! I will be choosing some trustworthy moderators, so you don't need to worry about hackers. The server will be vanilla with no added airstrikes, squads, or any addons like that.

The time the event will be held at is 5PM GMT on Tuesday, July 26th, 2016.
