For August's FSOM we have decided to switch things up a bit. Instead of being on Saturday the event will be held on Sunday the 3rd at 5am gmt and we will be playing Arena.
Download the client software on the right side of the screen. Installation is pretty simple, as there's a wizard when you first start the application to help you set up your mic and audio.
I highly recommend using a button to activate it, rather than having your mic turn on automatically when it picks up noise. This is especially true for laptop users or those using a webcam w/ mic. You'll have this option towards the end of the wizard (my push-to-talk is set to mouse button 5, your scroll button (click, not scroll) is also free in aos for you 3 button mouse owners).
If you choose to do push-to-talk, keep your threshold rather low (so that it's easier to pick up sounds), this means your blue part of the meter should be small. If instead you are using auto-detect, be sure to keep your threshold toward the high end, or else the rest of us will pick up your game and background noise, which can get quite irritating, especially with 16 people.
Once you've setup your microphone, click the picture of the world icon. Then click "Add New" and enter the following:

The babel gamemode on Aloha has recently been updated.
Fog now properly loads on a new map (and doesn't affect the intel grab/drop flash).
The green/red team can now build 1 block below and adjacent to heavens like the blue team can (this is actually re-adding a fix that was written over accidentally)
Map makers can use the mapname.txt file to change player and tent spawns.
Map makers can define the heavens color.
Both new features are completely backwards compatible with mapname.txt files that exist now (or don't exist at all). The game uses the original defaults if not explicitly defined in mapname.txt. The convention used for spawn locations and fog color in all other mapname.txt files is still used here, and most of these should be compatible with the new script without modification.

It's important to note that usually not including all 4 entity IDs in get_entity_location() is a bad idea. However the intel is fixed in babel, and should not be defined in the mapname.txt (if it is it'll be ignored anyway). The script defines get_entity_location() for the intel first, then passes on to the mapname.txt for the tent locations. Mapname.txt files that incorporate all 4 can still be used; just the intel spawn locations will be ignored (tent locations will be used).
Also, if anyone has any ideas/suggestions on stuff that should be incorporated into current maps (fog, heavens color, spawns), reply here! I'm 90% certain drift ice should not be spawning the players in the water now, and I moved the tents up by about 5 blocks so they spawn on top of the plateau.
The updated babel_script.py is here: babel_script.py (also wow, mediafire formats code now!) You'll still need an original babel.py file (that is the companion file that comes with babel_script.py). For more info check out the BnS thread.

recently we put up some AoS servers in Australia and Europe. big thanks to topo for providing the resources in Australia and rakiru for providing the resources in Europe.
we also have a new server running the smashoff game mode by Dr.Morphman. in this game mode, causing damage to enemies physically pushes them away from you. the more damage you cause, the farther back they will be pushed. the goal? to smash them off the edge of the map to their death!

Hey, this is my server! Wow! So here's a quick rundown:
The game is Blue vs Green Green team is zombies, and they are all bots - computer players. Blue team is for players.
The Zombie will keep the server full: with one human player there will be 31 zombies, 16 humans: 16 zombies. The server is limited to 16 human players total (on blue or spectator).
Zombies take about 20% damage compared to regular AoS. If a zombie has intel he takes 5% damage except for headshots which are 10%. The tents (both blue and green) rotate around the map in a circle. The blue tent will refill your grenades, ammo, and blocks while the green tent will heal you.
The Intel: Intel is different than in regular CTF. If you are holding intel, all zombies will go after you. They will target other humans if fairly close, but in general they will only go after you. Wherever the intel is, whether held by a human or on the ground, that grid coordinate (on the map) will be protected - Zombies will not be able to break blocks inside that square. Additionally, zombies will now go after groups of humans if there is no intel carrier. Capturing intel will reset it like normal, and the capturing player will be able to instakill the next 16 zombies he shoots. This is done on a bullet by bullet basis, so a shotgun will tend to waste this advantage. If you want to drop intel in a coordinate or give it to someone else, you can use the command /drop. It will prevent you from picking it back up for a very short period of time.
Intel Zombie: One zombie will hold the human intel. This zombie will do 100 HP damage per swing of his spade. Additionally all zombies jump if they are unable to walk forward - the intel zombie will tear a hole in any blocks near him when he jumps. When he dies he will also explode, and this explosion can kill you easily. Zombies cannot crouch, so a two-block high doorway in a protected zone is sufficient to keeping zombies out.
There is also a very slight chance when you kill a zombie that the entire zombie team will immediately respawn inside that zombie's dead body. Be careful!
